What's going on guys, it was time for me to upload this coming-of-age drama, it was in my list of recommendations from people, the one I have in my Letterboxd profile.
It's about teenagers who are experimenting with sex, then, slowly, they are generating an addiction until sex and drugs become their daily routin.
It depicts the typical portrayal of an addiction that we are used to see in other movies, characters are not really likable and the story is average. The script is too bad, but it's a "so bad, it's good" script, it's that foolish and raw that manages to entertain the viewer, the script carries the movie out, under my opinion. The pacing is alright and it's easy to watch.
Kids shows how AIDS can ruin a life, and how nasty a person becomes when sex addiction reaches uncontrollable levels. This movie also depicts, how blurred, a drugged teenager's perception of reality can be.
The themes which are treated here are the ones we are already used to, see Trainspotting, Requiem for a Dream... but, let me tell you something, this movie came first!
Anyway, leaving all the flaws aside, I have to addmit that this kind of stuff always generate an interest on us, we always like what is forbidden and crazy, so yeah, these movies usually work very well when it comes to pleasing an audience.
I found this one a bit boring, but it has its own beauty, the strongest part is the message it tries to transmit for younger audiences, and... for not that young ones.
I would recommend it just if you like this kind of cinema.
