I am back!

The RETURN After a couple of months of no activity because of personal stuff, I am back again. I have been very busy these past months, then I had no energy to watch movies and even less to make a single small review... well you all know that it takes up neurons.  I will be watching more movies and posting daily content on Letterboxd and I will also be sharing some thoughts here. P.S. I'm very excited about Saw X , it will be released in a month, I can't wait for it.

Jack Nicholson, a madman

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

Hello everyone who takes the time to read my posts, today we are here with the movie which gave Jack Nicholson his first Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (he won another one in 1998 for his role in As Good as It Gets).

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a drama movie based on a novel of the same name by Ken Kesey.

It's about a mental institution and all the crazy stuff (never better said) which takes place there, having the character of Jack Nicholson as a newcomer.

This movie treats an interesting theme (I talk about it in the next paragraph), characters are as likable as they are insane, the acting is wonderful and not just the role played by Jack Nicholson, we have Danny De Vito here and some more around the cast. The plot has some surprises and it enjoys of a good pacing.

This piece works mainly as an indictment of asylums and mental institutions, an indictment of how the "insane" have been treated during history, but today this does not go unpunished either, statistically these kind of centres always have some kind of problems (sadly we see this fact very often on the news). I have to say that working in a place, like the one is depicted in this movie, has to be an arduous task, but not everyone has the same qualities, people working in these institutions would have to be very sure that they are passionate about it, or at least not disillusioned by dealing, daily, with this people.

The thing I didn’t understood was the title, then I went into the Internet: "What means the title of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and I found a simple answer that I’m going to share with you (in case you have the same issue): "Cuckoo’s nest" is a pejorative term used for an insane asylum, seems like it’s a slang used in EEUU. Well, if you had some doubts, I think that eveything is very clear and solved now.

To put and end to this entry, I just have to say that this is a good movie overall, but it becomes a bit overwhelming after the first hour and a half. To sum it up, here we have a flawless acting together with a very interesting theme, definitely it's worth to be watched.
