I am back!

The RETURN After a couple of months of no activity because of personal stuff, I am back again. I have been very busy these past months, then I had no energy to watch movies and even less to make a single small review... well you all know that it takes up neurons.  I will be watching more movies and posting daily content on Letterboxd and I will also be sharing some thoughts here. P.S. I'm very excited about Saw X , it will be released in a month, I can't wait for it.

The rebirth of an evil franchise

 Evil Dead Rise (2023)

"Open the door like you open your legs, you stinking groupie slut!"

Hi guys, here we are today to talk about the rebirth of this classic franchise.

The first installment of Evil Dead was released back in the 1980s, in 1981, the movie was notable for its use of special effects, fake blood, scenes with modelling clay and that kind of old low budget stuff. That way of filmmaking made Evil Dead a real classic over the years.
Each installment is about people who experience strange events, everything caused by the presence of the so-called "Book of the Dead".

Anyway, we are here to talk about the one released in 2023, let's go then! Evil Dead Rise follows the same paths of the previous parts, a demoniac book is found by a couple of teenagers and the evil forces are awakened once again.

The story doesn't portrays anything new, characters are not really very interesting but the movie manages to create a good envirnoment with some good special effects (more modern this time, there was no place for modelling clay). The pacing is okey and it is not very long.

I saw a lot of similarities with the movie called The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), I don't really know if this aspect was already noticed by someone else, or if it went viral around cinema forums, but indeed it reminded me to that one.
I am going to specify the scenes: The first was the one which takes place in the elevator, fighting with the evil forces, and the second is the one of the cat in the ventilation vent.

I also detected a nod to Stanley Kubrick in the elevator full of blood scene, in particular because of the one point perspective shot, you know what movie originally it belongs to, right? The Shining (1980).

All in all, despite not being an amazing movie, it's decent, so if you are a fan of the franchise or you are interested on seeing the big differences of filmmaking along the years, give it a try.
