I am back!

The RETURN After a couple of months of no activity because of personal stuff, I am back again. I have been very busy these past months, then I had no energy to watch movies and even less to make a single small review... well you all know that it takes up neurons.  I will be watching more movies and posting daily content on Letterboxd and I will also be sharing some thoughts here. P.S. I'm very excited about Saw X , it will be released in a month, I can't wait for it.

A religious but not that religious movie

 Shiva Baby (2020)

Hi guys, I hope you are all doing fine, here I am again to give a small review of this small movie, which lasts 78 minutes.

It's a lighthearted comedy which spins around the character of Danielle, a bisexual from a Jewish family, who goes with her parents to a shiva (in Judaism, shiva is a period of a week after the death of a first-degree family member, in which they mourn. Mourners remain at home, then family and friends go visit them, and that's what happens in this piece).

This movie enjoys of a simple, but engaging story at the same time, characters are okey and the plot is a bit unpredictable. It isn't very long and it has a good pacing which fits well with the movie, it's able to get the viewer glued to the screen and it does a good use of editing resources to capture the attention of the audience.

The thing I didn't like, which one happens to me very often when I watch modern movies about social dramas, romances or teenager related content, is how unnatural they treat some topics.
You probaby guess what I am talking about, topics like equality or non-discrimination, sexuality, well... all that stuff. We see here lines like: "No man left behind... or woman sorry", come on, I know that you have to be careful and you want people to like the script, but try not to cram it into the movie...
Another examples like this one, that we can find in this piece, are all the lesbian scenes. I can get that they wanted to mix religion with bisexuality, so I can understand they wanted to depict a very strict and religious family against modernity and I buy that, but there are other aspects which are a little over the top!

All in all, I would recommend this brief movie, despite the aspects I didn't like, this is a good one, a not very long and engaging comedy.
