I am back!

The RETURN After a couple of months of no activity because of personal stuff, I am back again. I have been very busy these past months, then I had no energy to watch movies and even less to make a single small review... well you all know that it takes up neurons.  I will be watching more movies and posting daily content on Letterboxd and I will also be sharing some thoughts here. P.S. I'm very excited about Saw X , it will be released in a month, I can't wait for it.

Sixteen Candles (1984)

 Sixteen Candles (1984)

Hello guys! Here I am leaving a review for this total classic, Sixteen Candles.

This movie was directed by John Hughes, the one who also directed The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, he got very popular during the 1980s with all his comedies, but let me tell you something... this one was his directorial debut.

Sixteen Candles is about a family, a family which seems to be a bit out of the ordinary, Samantha who is a teenager that is about to turn 16, a younger kid who is very slick for his age, a grandpa who does not mince his words... well, something normal in each family, but at the same time out of the ordinary when it comes to an utopian one.

It's a lighthearted and easy to watch movie, it enjoys of a humor that wasn't going to be seen with the past of the years (I will talk about this point in the next paragraph), characters are interesting, peculiar and funny, it enjoys of original and well thought jokes, the movie has a good pacing and everything is fine overall.

Sixteen Candles is not an easy movie to talk about, yes, you probably know why (even if you haven't watched it before), especially when it comes to the field of humor, because it becomes gross and it isn't a family friendly piece. Is this something bad? I guess not, I like this kind of content, it feels refreshing sometimes. Year after year society is supposed to become more free, states of dictatorship are disappearing gradually, laws are adapted to the life of citizens, not citizens to laws and everyone sees everything through rose-colored glasses, we all become more inclusive, but... we can't handle humor, right?

I saw around the Internet many questions about this movie asking if it was appropriate for children and also a lot of people complaining on the character of Lung Duk Kong for being a very offensive stereotype of Asian people. What to say, it depends on how you look at this kind of content, if you just stick to the mere entertainment that cinema can bring you, there shouldn't be much to complain about.

So well, after all, it isn't easy to speak openly about this kind of things, I personally like this humor, movies like BoratBrüno, Life of Brian, or many Spanish old raw comedies like: Amanece, que no es poco or Agítese antes de usarla, at this point we reached, I find them brave and very special.

I would highly encourage you to check this movie out, it is a must-watch classic, so if you haven't done it yet, I don't really know what are you waiting for.
